Missing The Little Guys

Anytime I’m absent for a while, it’s a good bet that I’m spending time with my grandkids.

The reality of living many miles from one another is that when we are together it is all-consuming, 24 hours per day fun and when we are apart it is all-consuming, 24 hours per day missing the little nuggets.

First up was a week babysitting for little Andy while his mom traveled to Spain for work. It was a reprise of my time as granny nanny and I loved every single minute.

Andy decided that his new favorite song was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” which I sang to him hundreds of times. Fortunately, to save my sanity and to protect Andy from becoming tone deaf due to my not-so-great singing voice, I bookmarked this on You Tube.

Next up, the twins and their parents came to spend school vacation week with us in Chicago. Chip and Dale have recently discovered the wonders of dinosaurs and couldn’t wait to meet Sue and all of the other fabulous specimens at the Field Museum.

The boys also loved the Beluga Whales at the Shedd Aquarium.

Since their departure, I’ve been putting away toys, catching up on my to-do list and, once again, fighting with my computer.

I’d much rather be playing with the boys than cleaning up this mess…

  1. Such cute photos of your grandchildren!
Have you considered renting a house on the Cape for a month in the summer?
    Have an enjoyable weekend.

  2. I knew someone who moved to a large city with lots of attractions so when their family came to visit, there would always be an activity the kids loved! You will always be a hot attraction with Chicago as your playground! When you get to travel and see them, it will be fun on their turf.
Mary Poppins is one of my all – time favorites, so I think you are an awesome grand to play the song over and over!

    • The little guys kept saying, “I love Chicago!”. Momo sure loved hearing that!! It is fun that we both live in great places to visit. There is always something to do, even if the winters are a bit rough!

  5. That pic of Chip and Dale at the aquarium? Stellar. And I have to say it was SO refreshing to see the state of your desk. Mo – it looks very similar to mine. Who wants to clean when you can be out and about with the littlies? My niece’s son is a delight at two years of age and I love being with him. As I tucked him into his car seat the last time he reached for my face and said “Hi Sweetie!” and proceeded to muss up my hair. Over and over all the while saying “Hi Sweetie!” Of course, my laughter only encouraged him.
Now what’s happening with your computer? More trouble? Ugh. I hope not.

    • Moments like your “Hi Sweetie!” greeting are truly priceless, right? Out of the mouth of babes… My not-so-trusty computer acts u[ just enough to be monumentally frustrating but not quite so much that I feel spending money on a new computer is justified. At least it is backed up! Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

  7. LOL! I always thought it was funny how junky my parents house was when I’d go to pick up my son if he’d been there a week. Welcome back! Glad you had fun being granny nanny.

  9. How fun for both you and the boys! Exhausting too, I’m sure. I’m used to the mess in my house, but it still drives me crazy. I’m going to have to become a bit more laid back when I have grandchildren and they come to visit. I don’t want to be anal retentive granny!
